Marc Brisson

I go to work everyday and spend hours working on a variety of things. I often find it difficult to decide what to do so I give myself a huge umbrella—a general theme that helps justify making the images I want to create.

I have started a series of photographs called The Smoking Area. I take photographs of people smoking in assigned smoking areas. I see lots of images I would like to record but not everyone is open to being photographed smoking. I eventually decided to stage the images and approached an incredible character—who deserves the spotlight—but the mere mention of the word photograph scared him away. A rethink is in order.

I am not trying to save the world or be profound with the images I create. I am merely recording them because I find them interesting. I draw, paint, sculpt, take photographs and print because I like images.
